About TU Dortmund University

Since its founding more than 50 years ago, TU Dortmund University has developed a special profile encompassing 17 departments ranging from science and engineering to social sciences and culture studies. TU Dortmund University has a strong focus on research. The university’s disciplines, e.g. mechanical engineering with its emphasis on production and logistics, physics, biochemical- and chemical engineering, statistics and computer science, as well as education research, are well known for their outstanding research achievements both nationally and internationally.


About Dortmund International Summer Program

The International Summer Program (ISP) at TU Dortmund offers diverse courses in Engineering and Humanities, cultural experiences, accommodation, and support services, fostering intercultural exchange and personal growth during the summer months. HKUST-nominated students will join Dortmund ISP in in-person mode only.

4 June - 8 August 2026 (6 weeks)

* Notes:

  • Students must arrive and register at the host university by 4 June 2026, 4pm.
  • Host Institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You are required to pay attention to the host institution's arrival information and arrive in time.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program (i.e. finishing all final examinations and/or assessments, both compulsory and optional ones).


Fees

Other than the fees listed below, HKUST students will bear the costs for accommodation, meals, travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and all other costs incurred by the program.

Accommodation Students are expected to pay around EUR 400 per month for renting a student apartment at Dortmund.
Final cost depends on the accommodation type.


Eligibility and Application Process

HKUST students must apply through the Office of Global Learning. Individual direct application to the host institution will not be accepted. You are eligible to apply for the program if you:

  • are enrolling in one of the following first majors
    • School of Engineering majors
    • Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management: Engineering and Business
    • Data Science and Technology
    • Integrative Systems and Design
  • have a CGA of 2.8 or above; and
  • have completed at least 4 regular terms in SENG; priority will be given to students in year 3 or above; and
  • meet the course requirements of the selected courses described on the course pages; and
  • fullfill the requirements listed under HKUST Summer Study Abroad Program brochure page.

Visa Information

Depending on your nationality and the length of your stay you may need a visa to enter Germany. Please CLICK HERE for more information.


Health Insurance

HKUST students who take part in the University's study abroad programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. Please CLICK HERE for details.


Accommodation

HKUST students must stay in one of the accommodation options offered by the host institution (if applicable). If you choose not to stay in any of them, you must obtain a pre-approval from HKUST by emailing OGL at study.abroad@ust.hk.
