About International Honors Program

The International Honors Program (IHP) is a collaboration between Stanford Summer Session and specific international teaching and research institutions, which brings highly motivated students to Stanford University’s campus from over 30 partner institutions in 17 countries for a challenging eight-week academic and cultural experience.

All IHP students are endorsed through a selective admissions process, initiated at their home institution. Enrol in Summer Session with Stanford undergraduates and other visiting students to enjoy the privilege of participating in extracurricular programs that are specifically designed.

Summer courses feature smaller class size, accessible instructors, and a diverse student body. Students can choose from courses offered in more than 30 departments, from foundational core courses to offerings that are unique to Stanford. Course information can be found HERE.

HKUST-nominated students are required to take 8 course units.

Notes:

  • Host Institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You are required to pay attention to the host institution's arrival information and arrive in time.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program (i.e. finishing all final examinations and/or assessments, both compulsory and optional ones).


Fees

This is a fee-paying program and HKUST students will bear all the fees including the application and tuition fees, the costs for accommodation, meals, travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and other administrative fees. With a 20% tuition discount (for up to 8 units) offered to HKUST students, you should budget around USD 18,000-20,000 for participating in the IHP. Visa Information

Stanford requires international students who attend Stanford Summer Session to have a visa appropriate for academic study. To apply for an F-1 Student Visa, students must obtain an I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant F-1 Student Status) from Stanford.

Health Insurance

All students enrolled in courses at Stanford are required to have health insurance. The University will automatically enrol students in Stanford’s Cardinal Care health insurance plan and charge $1,782 for the Summer Quarter.

HKUST students who take part in the University's study abroad programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. Please CLICK HERE for details.


Accommodation

Students who attend Stanford as part of the International Honors Program can live on campus; an online housing application must be submitted by each individual student in order to ensure placement in the correct residence hall. All IHP students are required to complete the R&DE housing application in order to receive their keys at the Welcome Event.
