About Harvard Summer School (HSS)

Harvard Summer School (HSS) offered by Harvard Division of Continuing Education (DCE) is an academically rigorous experience for students with intellectual curiosity who are eager to make new friends from around the world and explore the many facets of Harvard University. HSS offer three sessions. HKUST-nominated students can choose to attend either one Three-Week Session or Four-Week Session or one Seven-Week Session. 

HKUST-nominated students are required to take course(s) that are (1) credit-bearing and (2) delivered in face-to-face mode (i.e. on-campus courses). Please pay attention to requirements on credit enrollment in relation to US student visa issuance.

Notes:

  • Host Institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You are required to pay attention to the host institution's arrival information and arrive in time.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program (i.e. finishing all final examinations and/or assessments, both compulsory and optional ones).


Fees

This is a fee-paying program and HKUST students will bear the tuition fee and the costs for travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and other costs incurred by the program. For fee details, please CLICK HERE.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for the program if you:

  • are aged 18 or over by 1 July 2024; and
  • have met English language requirement stated on this page (under "Adult or College Students Taking Courses In a Seven- Four- or Three-Week Session" tab); and
  • have a cumulative CGA of 3.0 or above; and
  • fulfil the requirements listed under HKUST Summer Study Abroad Program brochure page.

Visa Information

As HKUST-nominated students are required to participate in the HSS in person, students will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate or graduate credit courses and must obtain an I-20 Certificate from Harvard Summer School and apply for an F-1 student visa at a US embassy or consulate in your home country for entry to the United States. Health Insurance

Harvard Summer School health insurance plan is included as an added benefit to the program fee. This coverage satisfies the U.S. legal requirements for coverage and there is no longer be an option to waive this insurance. 

HKUST students who take part in the University's study abroad programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. Please CLICK HERE for details.


Accommodation

HSS on-campus housing is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you choose to live on campus in Cambridge or Boston, please CLICK HERE for details, eligibility requirements and timelines.
