About Sophia University

About January Session in Japanese Studies

By participating in January Session in Japanese Studies, students will be able to delve into Japanese language, culture and contemporary social issues upon successful course completion.

HKUST-nominated students are required to take in-person course(s) only.  Program and course information can be found HERE.

  • Host Institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You are required to pay attention to the host institution's arrival information and arrive in time.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program.

Fees

HKUST students will bear the costs for accommodation, meals, travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and all other costs incurred by the program.

Eligibility

HKUST students should apply through the Office of Global Learning Experience. Individual direct application to the host institution will not be accepted. You are eligible to apply for the program if you:

  • have a CGA of 2.8 or above; and 
  • have completed at least a semester at HKUST by the time of application; and 
  • meet additional requirements set by host institution for corresponding course; and
  • fulfill the requirements listed under HKUST Winter Study Abroad Program brochure page.

Visa Information

Students may be required to apply for a visa to attend the program. Please CLICK HERE for details.

Insurance

Insurance fee is included in the program fee and all participants are automatically registered for host institution's insurance plan. It is mandatory for all participants to join the insurance plan, please CLICK HERE for details.

HKUST students who take part in the University's study abroad programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. To apply for an insurance certificate, please CLICK HERE.


Accommodation

Students are required to arrange accommodation on your own. There are some housing options recommended by the host institution, please CLICK HERE for details.
