About The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (“HKUST(GZ)”) is located in Nansha, Guangzhou, the geometric center of the GuangdongHong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is perfectly placed for geographical convenience and forms part of an axis for technological progress.

* Notes:

  • Host Institutions usually organize orientation activities for exchange students, with some mandatory, which take place 1 week before the start of the term. You should refer to the acceptance package and pay attention to all the important information provided by your host institution.
  • As stipulated by the host institution, you are required to arrive at HKUST (GZ) on 23 August 2025.
  • HKUST and/or host institution may make changes on the arrangement of the exchange program, including suspension of the program, change of teaching mode etc. 
  • You should only depart after finishing all the final examinations (including resits) since host institutions will not make special arrangement for taking any examinations other than scheduled.

Tentative Fall 2025 course list is for your reference only. Course list is subject to change and the discretion is on the host institution. 

Students are strongly recommended to obtain the acadmic advice from your school and department regarding the course planning before you apply. As well, you are also advised to contact Academic Registry Office regarding credit transfer related matters.

Students will bear the costs of accommodation, travel, visa (if applicable), insurance (if applicable), personal expenses and other fees incurred in the program.

Eligibility

Full-time undergraduate students are eligible to apply for HKUST Outbound Undergraduate Cross-Campus Study Program if you fulfill the requirements listed below:

  • Students have completed at least two year of study at HKUST and not in their final term by the start of the program are welcome to apply* unless specified; and
  • CGA 2.5 or above (Students with CGA below 2.5 may also apply. Offers may be given with special consideration.); and
  • Are not currently committed to other study abroad programs offered by HKUST Office of Global Learning (OGL) or Schools in the same term; and
  • Priority will be given to students who have not participated in exchange or study abroad programs organized by HKUST before.


Program Choice

Students will be affiliated to one of the thrusts listed below: 

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Data Science and Analytics (DSA)
  • Smart Manufacturing (SMMG)

Students will be asked to indicate your preference upon the offer acceptance.

Important Notes

  • A placement is a valuable opportunity offered by HKUST for HKUST students. It is a valuable resource which must be used effectively without wastage. You are expected to think carefully about your participation in such programs before you submit your application. There should be thorough consideration to the financial and time commitment involved. 
  • If you withdraw from the program any time after you have committed to the offer, you will lose your eligibility to apply for the same program again in the future. 
  • Course enrollment, course quota and availability are decided solely by the host institution. 
  • Students must have active student status during Fall Term.
  • OGL will have the final judgement on the program, including but not limited to program offerings, selection procedures, nomination decisions and program completion.


Application

  • Click the "Apply Now" button on this page to complete HKUST application forms and submit supplementary documents. Please refer to below section “Required documents/materials” for details.
  • Make sure you click the "Submit Application" button on the application page in order to submit your application before the application deadline. No late applications will be accepted unless specified.
  • Application decisions will be released on MyStudyAbroad (with email notification sent to your HKUST email account) on a rolling basis. You are advised to check email regularly (including your junk folder). 


Required Documents

You must submit the required documents by the application deadline on MyStudyAbroad System. It is not necessary to submit hard copies.


Selection Criteria

Selection is made taking into account the following factors:

  • Academic standing (CGA)
  • Information provided in your application form


Application Results

The results will be announced via MyStudyAbroad on a rolling basis. Students should check the mailbox regularly. The offer is a confirmation of HKUST’s nomination. The final admission decision rests with the host institution. The host institution also does not guarantee that you will be able to enroll into any specific courses, as course registration is, in most cases, a separate process. If you decide to take this offer and confirm your participation in this program, you must be prepared to be flexible with the follow-up arrangements, including, but not limited to, course selection.


Accepting the offer

Each student is restricted to commit to one offer only within the same term. To commit to the offer, you must:

  • Follow the instructions in the MyStudyAbroad system to commit to the offer. This may require the signing off some forms in the system.
  • To commit to the offer, you are required to submit a deposit of HK$2,000 by the deadline stated on your offer letter. This deposit will be returned to you (i) upon submission of the official transcript issued by the host institution, and (ii) OGL's review of your study abroad report submitted by the deadline. If you subsequently withdraw or fail to complete the program, the deposit will not be returned.

 

Declining the offer

  • If you do not commit to the offer by the deadline stated on your offer letter, we assume that you decline the offer.


Withdrawal and Penalty

  • Students who decide to withdraw from this program any time after committing to the offer for any reasons MUST inform OGL immediately via email at study.abroad@ust.hk.
  • Students who withdraw from the program any time after committing to the offer will lose the eligibility to apply for the same program again in the future, and the deposit will not be returned.
  • Students who fail to inform OGL of the withdrawal will not be allowed to apply for any programs offered by OGL again in the future.


HKUST Study Abroad Funding Support

HKUST provides funding support to students to support the study abroad participation. More details can be found at HKUST Study Abroad website.


Travel-related Information

Students would need an appropriate travel permit to travel to Mainland China. Your travel permit validity should cover the whole study abroad program period. Students who require visa to participate in the program are responsible to take care of the visa applications on your own. 


Insurance

HKUST students who take part in the University's study abroad programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. Please CLICK HERE for details.


Accommodation

All students will be housed in on-campus university housing (shared living room and independent bedroom), subject to availability.
