About Xiamen University

Xiamen University (XMU), established in 1921 by renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee, is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education. With a graduate school, six academic divisions consisting of 33 schools and colleges, and 16 research institutes, XMU boasts a total enrollment of nearly 44,000 full-time students with over 20,000 undergraduates, 18,000 graduate students toward a master’s degree and 5,000 doctoral candidates.

Forever inspired by the motto “Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection”, XMU has been dedicated to producing high-caliber talents with integrity, thereby making great contributions to the prosperity of the country, the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the progress of mankind in general.


About Xiamen

Xiamen is a sub-provincial city in southeastern Fujian, People's Republic of China. The port of Xiamen is a well-developed first-class trunk line port in the Asia-Pacific region. It is ranked the 7th-largest container port in China and ranks 13th in the world. It is the 4th port in China with the capacity to handle 6th-generation large container ships.


Term date

  • Host Institutions usually organize orientation activities for exchange students, with some mandatory, which take place 1-2 weeks before the start of the term. You should refer to the acceptance package and pay attention to the expected arrival or pick-up dates specified by your host institution.
  • You should only depart after finishing all the final examinations (including resits) since host institutions will not make special arrangement for taking any examinations other than scheduled.

Eligibility

As stipulated by the host institution, only students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are accepted. Mainland students with a proficiency of Mandarin may also apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
