About Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam)

Since its foundation, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam has stood for scientific and value-driven education, research and knowledge transfer. VU Amsterdam is a unique university with faculties in the humanities, STEM, social sciences and medical sciences. Its education and research are closely linked. They combine top position in research with a strong social orientation, which has resulted in an excellent international reputation. Our education and research are distinctly multidisciplinary. This is reinforced by the fact that our faculties are all located on one campus. About VU Amsterdam Summer School

VU Amsterdam Summer School provide top-notch short courses in subjects like international law, environmental science and policy, and statistical research. Summer school professors are passionate about sharing their knowledge through interactive lectures, group discussions, and practical assignments. A diverse and inclusive environment fosters cross-cultural understanding and encourages collaboration. VU Amsterdam Summer School also take care of students and ensure they have a comfortable stay in the Netherlands. Exciting social activities such as city tours, museum visits, and workshops are offered. These allow students to explore one of the most beautiful capital cities in Europe and gain valuable insights into Dutch culture.

HKUST nominated students are required to take courses to form a study program of at least 3 consecutive weeks' duration. List of courses is available at https://vu.nl/en/education/summerschool/courses.

 

Program Date

3-week duration (Session 1 and session 2b): 6 July - 28 July 2024
4-week duration (Session 1 and Session 2a): 6 July - 4 August 2024

Notes:

  • Host Institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You are required to pay attention to the host institution's arrival information and arrive in time.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program (i.e. finishing all final examinations and/or assessments, both compulsory and optional ones)


Fees

This is a fee-paying program and HKUST-nominated students will bear the tuition fee and the costs for accommodation, meals, travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and all other costs incurred by the program.

Visa Information

Students may be required to apply for a visa to attend the program. Please refer to the website of Government of the Netherlands and VU Amsterdam Summer School for information.


Insurance

HKUST students who take part in the University's study abroad programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. Please CLICK HERE for details.
