About Summer in San Francisco

Summer in San Francisco is a fun and functional opportunity for students to enrich academic career and worldview. Students can explore the city while taking the optional and free 1 unit course, A U 110: Living in San Francisco*. Visit historic neighborhoods, hike through iconic landscapes and check out historic landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Embarcadero and Nob Hill.
*Included for all programs five weeks or longer

Courses are offered over different sessions of varying lengths. Course information can be found HERE.

HKUST-nominated students are required to take course(s) that are (1) credit-bearing and (2) delivered in face-to-face mode (i.e. on-campus courses). Please pay attention to requirements on credit enrollment in relation to US student visa issuance.


Program Date

Students can choose the session based on their study plan and schedule.

Notes:

  • Host Institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You are required to pay attention to the host institution's arrival information and arrive in time.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program (i.e. finishing all final examinations and/or assessments, both compulsory and optional ones).


Fees

This is a fee-paying program and HKUST students will bear the tuition fee, the costs for accommodation, meals, travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and all other costs incurred by the program. Visa Information

HKUST-nominated students are required to participate in the program in person and enrolled in full-time credit courses. An I-20 (“Certificate of Eligibility”) will be issued from the host institution for students to apply for an F-1 student visa at a US embassy or consulate in their home country for entry to the United States. Health Insurance

Students are required to purchase the California State University (CSU)/SF State sponsored insurance. Purchasing instructions will be included in the admission packet. This coverage satisfies the U.S. legal requirements for coverage. 

HKUST students who take part in the University's study abroad programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. Please CLICK HERE for details.
