HKUST Outbound Virtual Study Abroad - Shanghai Jiao Tong University

HKUST is pleased to offer opportunities for our undergraduate students to enroll in a wide range of virtual courses offered by participating partner institutions in Spring 2024.
 

About Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), as one of the higher education institutions which enjoy a long history and a world-renowned reputation in China, is a key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People's Republic of China and co-constructed by MOE and Shanghai Municipal Government. Through 119 years' unremitting efforts, SJTU has become a comprehensive, research-oriented, and internationalized top university in China.

SJTU has 28 schools/departments offering 64 undergraduate programs to 16,099 undergraduates. The university faculty includes 2,851 full-time teachers. SJTU enjoys an increasingly high scientific research level and technology innovation level.

Course Information

Click here (under section "Courses Details") to view the course schedule and syllabus. Students can take 1-2 courses from the list. Courses will be commenced and end on different dates between February to July 2024.

Courses are offered in English. You are required to attend classes and assessments according to the time and format set by the instructor. Please pay attention to the course level and course-specified restrictions. Some courses are postgraduate level, you are advised to review the study load and level of the course carefully before applying.

Your course plan will be submitted to Shanghai Jiao Tong University for final approval. The host institution reserves the right to cancel any courses should there be insufficient enrollment. It is also possible that the course offerings to be changed or have time conflicts with the virtual courses you are applying for and/or your courses at HKUST. Please make sure that you are flexible enough to change your study plan if needed.  
 

Fees

When you enroll in these courses nominated by HKUST, you are not required to pay tuition fee to the partner institution. You continue to be a registered HKUST student. If a course has additional fees required for items such as textbooks, these will be detailed in the course outline from the partner.
 

Course Load and Credit Transfer

  • HKUST students are required to discuss and obtain endorsement from your major department for enrolling in these courses.
  • Students are responsible to check with the host institution on the course/program completion requirement to be awarded the credits.
  • Please visit HKUST Study Abroad website for details of credit transfer procedures.


Application Deadline

10 January 2024, 2:00pm (Hong Kong Time)
 

HKUST Selection

Should the demand for places exceed the available quota, students will be selected on a first-come-first-served basis according to the time of application submission on the MyStudyAbroad system.
 

Eligibility

These courses are open to HKUST full-time undergraduate students who are:

  • Not in their first nor final term at HKUST when the course is in session; and
  • Of satisfactory academic performance with CGA 2.5 or above; and
  • Who has obtained endorsement from the major department for enrolling in the desired course(s).
  • This is not open to inbound exchange students or HKUST students on outbound exchange program or study leave in the term when the course is in session.

 

Application Procedures

Step 1: Complete the endorsement form, discuss with your major department and obtain their signed endorsement.

Step 2: Click the “Apply Now” button on this page to complete HKUST application form and upload the signed endorsement form to the system.

Step 3: The Host Institution Application - If you are nominated, you will be provided with details to submit a formal application to the host institution.
