Shanghai Jiaotong University - AI Training Summer Camp (Virtual)

Artificial intelligence is a trending topic nowadays, AI technologies are infiltrating our daily life on various aspects. Shanghai Jiaotong University offers opportunities for HKUST undergraduate students to join this online program to learn about python and AI through lectures, group work, workshops,  online meet-up with industry experts etc. This program is a non-credit-bearing program.

All classes and activities are real-time online and interactive sessions. Students are required to attend classes and activities punctually according to the schedule. Please pay attention to the time difference before submitting an application. You are also expected to engage actively in the online classes. So, please commit to giving your full attention during the scheduled class, and be a good representative of HKUST.

* Note: The host institution may make adjustments to the program due to unprecedented situations; or cancel the program or a course should there be insufficient enrollment.



Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for HKUST Mainland Cultural Program if you fulfill the requirements listed below.

  • HKUST local full-time students are welcome to apply for the program.
  • Students who have participated in HKUST Mainland Cultural Program administered by HKUST Office of Global Learning (previously known as the Mainland Cultural Exchange and Learning Opportunities administered by DSTO) before can also apply, priority will be given to students who have not participated in HKUST Mainland Cultural Program before.
  • Students should be able to write and read Chinese as well as communicate in Putonghua as program activities and classes will be conducted mainly in Putonghua.


Important Notes

  • A placement in a program is a valuable opportunity offered by HKUST for HKUST students. It is a valuable resource which must be used effectively without wastage. You are expected to think carefully about your participation in such programs before you submit your application. There should be thorough consideration to the financial and time commitment involved.


Application

  • Submit your application via MyStudyAbroad before the application deadline. The detailed specifications and instructions are provided in the application.
  • Unless otherwise announced, no late applications will be accepted.
  • Application decisions will be released on MyStudyAbroad (with email notification sent to your HKUST email account) on a rolling basis. You are advised to check email regularly (including your junk folder).
  • In order to meet the nomination deadlines as set by certain host institutions, HKUST may process certain applications in sequence.
  • You will be required to submit a formal application to the host institution (if applicable). Details will be provided via email in due course.

Please prepare the documents listed below and upload on MyStudyAbroad by the application deadline. It is not necessary to submit hard copies.

Application steps

Participation in these programs requires HKUST nomination. HKUST students must apply through OGL. Individual direct application to the host institution will not be accepted.

The whole application process has two steps.

Step 1: Click the "Apply Now" button on this page to complete HKUST application forms and submit supplementary documents. Make sure your click on "Submit Application" button on the application page in order to submit your application.
Step 2: Host Institution Application (if applicable) - If you are nominated, you will be provided with details to submit a formal application to the host institution application.


Selection Criteria

Placement for Mainland Cultural Programs is on a first-come-first-served basis upon your fulfillment of all the requirements set by the program. All the information provided in your application will also be taken into consideration. 

Application Results

The results will be announced via MyStudyAbroad. The offer is a confirmation of HKUST’s nomination. The final admission decision rests with the host institution. If you decide to take this offer and confirm your participation in this program, you must be prepared to be flexible with the follow-up arrangements.

Accepting the offer

To commit to the offer, you must:

  • Follow the instructions in the MyStudyAbroad system to commit to the offer. This may require the signing of some forms online and submitting deposit payment proof in the system.
  • To commit to the offer, you are required to submit a deposit of HK$2,000 by the deadline stated on your offer letter. The deposit will be refunded to you upon successful completion of the program and submission of program report. If you subsequently withdraw or fail to complete the program, the deposit will not be returned.
  • If you wish to commit to more than one cultural program in the same term, please contact HKUST Office of Global Learning via email at study.abroad@ust.hk.
  • Complete the formal application might be required by the host institution (if applicable). Detailed instructions will be provided in due course.

Declining the offer

  • If you do not commit to the offer by the deadline stated on your offer letter, we assume that you decline the offer.

Withdrawal and Penalty

  • Students who decide to withdraw from the HKUST Mainland Cultural Program any time after committing to the offer for any reasons MUST inform OGL immediately via email at study.abroad@ust.hk.
  • Students who withdraw from the program any time after committing to the offer OR fail to inform OGL of your withdrawal from the program will have lower priority in applying for HKUST Mainland Cultural Program in the future, and the deposit will not be returned.
