  • Please be reminded that due to the term date clash with HKUST’s, you may not be able to register UG Hall, enroll courses for the next semester since you are still on exchange when the next semester starts.


About Kyushu University

Kyushu University was established in 1911. It is a research-oriented institute of higher education in Fukuoka, which is historically renowned as Japans's gateway to Asia for profound cultural and economic interactions due to its geographical proximity to continental Asia. Kyushu has 12 undergraduate schools, 18 graduate schools, 17 faculties, 5 research institutes and a hospital, as well as over 50 affiliated research centers. Kyoshu has the 3rd largest area of land and buildings in Japan, approximately equivalent to 75.7 million meter square.


About Fukuoka

Fukuoka is Kyushu's largest city, located on the northern tip of Kyushu and boasting excellent transportation links. Due to its closeness to the Asian mainland, it has been an important harbour city for many centuries. Historically Fukuoka was divided by the central river into two separate cities, Hakata and Fukuoka, before their merge in 1889. 


Term date

  • Host Institutions usually organize orientation activities for exchange students, with some mandatory, which take place 1-2 weeks before the start of the term. You should refer to the acceptance package and pay attention to the expected arrival or pick-up dates specified by your host institution.
  • You should only depart after finishing all the final examinations (including resits) since host institutions will not make special arrangement for taking any examinations other than scheduled.

Eligibility (for students applying via School of Humanities and Social Science)

SHSS students are eligible to apply for the outbound exchange program by meeting ALL the requirements below.

  • Must complete at least three regular terms of study in the program prior to exchange
  • With CGA 2.7 or above by the time of applying; CGA 2.5 or above for programs in mainland China
  • A proof of English Language Proficiency (as required)
NOTE: Nomination decision rests with SHSS while final decision rests with the host university.

Application Process

To apply, click the "Apply Now via SHSS" button on this page. The whole application process has two steps.

Step 1: Complete HKUST application form and submit supplementary documents
 
Step 2: The Host Institution Application (TO BE COMPLETED AFTER YOU ARE NOMINATED BY YOUR SCHOOL)

If you are nominated, you will be notified to submit a formal host institution application. Your School will provide you with detailed information and application instructions in due course.
