Program Description:


About Fudan University

Fudan University was established in 1905 as Fudan Public School. It was the first institution of higher education to be founded by a Chinese person, renowned modern educator Ma Xiangbo. Fudan University became a comprehensive research-oriented university renowned both at home and abroad for its arts, sciences and medicine. Fudan implemented a new model of continuous general education throughout the entire undergraduate studies and a talent cultivation system that accentuates innovation ability and inquiry skills.

Over the past hundred years, the school has made outstanding contributions to the country by developing talent, innovating in science and technology, carrying forward civilization, and serving society. About Winter School @ Fudan SOE 2022

Winter School @ Fudan SOE 2022 is an online program organized by the School of Economics of Fudan University. It is targeted for students who are interested in economics, finance, marketing, sociology, etc. All courses are taught in English. HKUST-nominated students are only allowed to take courses conducted online. Upon successful completion of the Program, students will obtain certificate and transcript issued by Fudan University (non-degree education). Under this program, HKUST students can take up to 2 courses.

Course Information

Upon the course enrollment deadline, students are NOT allowed to make changes to the course plan or withdraw from the courses. So please select the courses carefully.

All classes are real-time online and interactive sessions . Students are required to attend class punctually according to the class schedule. Instructors will take mark for attendance and punctuality. You are also expected to engage actively in the online classes. So, please commit to giving your full attention during the scheduled class, and be a good representative of HKUST.

* Note: The host institution may make adjustments to the program due to unprecedented situations; or cancel the program or a course should there be insufficient enrollment.

Registration fee and tuition fee are waived for HKUST-nominated students. HKUST students will bear all other fees (if any).

Eligibility

Participation in these programs requires HKUST nomination. HKUST students must apply through Office of Global Learning. Individual direct application to the host institution will not be accepted. You are eligible to apply for this program if you fulfill the requirements listed below.

  • HKUST full-time undergraduate students who will be 18 years old at the time of the program start; and
  • Students who have participated in winter programs offered by OGL before can also apply. Special consideration may be given; and
  • CGA 2.0 or above (Students with CGA below 2.0 may also apply. Offers may be given with special consideration.); and
  • As specified by the host institution, priority will be given to Hong Kong local student or a student of Macao citizenship who are holding the Home Return Permit (回鄉證). Only limited seats are available to Mainland, Taiwan and international students;
  • Have not withdrawn from any winter programs offered by OGL in the past; and
  • Are NOT currently committed to other winter nominations.

By definition, a student will be considered as a Hong Kong local student if the student enters Mainland China with a Home Return Permit (回鄉證). 

Selection Criteria

Enrollment is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Students who have participated in the winter programs offered by OGL in previous years may also apply. Priority will be given to students who have not participated in the program before.


Application Procedures

Participation in these programs requires HKUST nomination. HKUST students must apply through OGL. Individual direct application to the host institution will not be accepted.

The whole application process has two steps.

Step 1: Click the "Apply Now" button on this page to complete HKUST application forms and submit supplementary documents. Make sure your click on "Submit Application" button on the application page in order to submit your application.
Step 2: Host Institution Application - If you are nominated, you will be provided with details to submit a formal application to the host institution application.

Important notes
  • A placement in a study abroad program is a valuable opportunity offered by HKUST for HKUST students. It is a valuable resource which must be used effectively without wastage. You are expected to think carefully about your participation in such programs before you submit your application. There should be thorough consideration to the financial and time commitment involved.
  • Students may apply for more than one program given that the program requirements are fulfilled. However, each student is restricted to commit to one offer only and you should note the penalty details if you decide to decline an offer or withdraw from an offer after acceptance.
  • If you withdraw from the program any time after you have committed to the offer, you will lose your eligibility to apply for the same program in future.


Application Results

The results will be announced via MyStudyAbroad. Students should check the mailbox regularly. The offer is a confirmation of HKUST’s nomination. The final admission decision rests with the host institution. The host institution also does not guarantee that you will be able to enroll into any specific courses, as course registration is, in most cases, a separate process. If you decide to take this offer and confirm your participation in this program, you must be prepared to be flexible with the follow-up arrangements, including, but not limited to, course selection.


Accepting the offer

Each student is restricted to commit to one offer only within the same term. To commit to the offer, you must:
 
  • Follow the instructions in the MyStudyAbroad system to commit to the offer. This may require the signing of some forms online in the system.
  • To commit to the offer, you are required to submit a deposit of HK$2,000 by the deadline stated on your offer letter. This deposit will be returned to you (i) upon submission of the official transcript issued by the host institution, and (ii) OGL's review of your study abroad report submitted by the deadline. If you subsequently withdraw or fail to complete the program, the deposit will not be returned.
  • Complete the formal application as required by the host institution. Detailed instructions will be provided in due course.


Declining the offer

  • If you choose to decline the offer given by OGL, you will have lower priority in your future application for the winter programs offered by OGL.
  • If you do not commit to the offer by the deadline stated on your offer letter, we assume that you decline the offer.


Withdrawal and Penalty

  • Students who decide to withdraw from the HKUST Winter Mainland Virtual Program any time after committing to the offer for any reasons MUST inform OGL immediately via email at study.abroad@ust.hk.
  • Students who withdraw from HKUST Winter Mainland Virtual Program any time after committing to the offer will lose the eligibility to apply for HKUST Winter Mainland Virtual Program in the future and the deposit will not be returned.
  • Students who fail to inform OGL of the withdrawal will not be allowed to apply for any programs offered by OGL again in the future.
