Program Description:

 

About AEARU-SNU Winter Ski Camp

AEARU-SNU Winter Ski Campis a 4-day recreational program held at Phoenix Hotels Resorts (Pyeongchang*, Korea)designed for students who are currently studying at AEARU member universities who wish to learn how to ski. We encourage all students, from beginners to advanced skiers, who wish to develop skiing skills and build international network to join this exciting winter camp. The camp will consist of morning and afternoon sessions with professional ski instructors.

Pyeongchang, a City of Nature & Sports:The 2018 Winter Olympics took place in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon Province, South Korea. The area offers wonderful outdoor activities year round, but the best time to visit is in winter, when the mountains are blanketed in snow. New York Times ranked Pyeongchang, Korea on the 35th place among ‘the 52 Must Visit Travel Destinations in 2016.

About The Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU)

The Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU) is a regional organization founded in January 1996, with the goals of forming a forum for the presidents of leading research-oriented universities in East Asia and of carrying out mutual exchanges between the major universities in the region.  HKUST is one of the AEARU member institutions.  For information about AEARU, visit their website at: http://www.aearu.org.

Program Date

28 January – 2 February 2020

* Notes:

  • You are expected to arrive on 28 January for program registration and dormitory check-in. Please refer to the host institution’s acceptance package for the arrival information.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program.


Fees

The host institution will provide accommodation, meals and transportation between SNU and the ski resort for participants. HKUST students will be responsible for other expenses including:

  • Air ticket
  • Transportation between airport and host institution
  • Ski suit rental fee: USD100 (Students may choose to bring their own ski suits and socks
  • Visa fee
  • Insurance (please refer also to the insurance information on this page)
  • Other personal expenses


Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for the program if you:

  • are a full-time undergraduate student; and
  • have a cumulative CGA of 2.0 or above (Students with CGA below 2.0 may also apply. Offers may be given with special consideration.).


Selection Criteria

Selection is made taking into account the following factors:

  • Academic standing (CGA); and
  • Information submitted in the application; and
  • Previous participation in study abroad programs


Application Process

HKUST students must apply through the Office of Global Learning. Individual direct application to the host institution will not be accepted.

Step 1: Complete HKUST application form and submit supplementary documents (CLICK HERE for details)

Step 2: The Host Institution Application (TO BE COMPLETED AFTER YOU ARE NOMINATED BY HKUST)

If you are nominated, you will be notified to submit a formal host institution application. Detailed information and application instructions will be available in due course.


Financial Assistance

The HKUST Study Abroad Financial Assistance aims to help HKUST students with financing their study abroad programs. More details can be found at HKUST Study Abroad website.


Visa Information

You are required to visit the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong or the nearest embassy or consulate of the Republic of Korea in your home country for accurate information. Please note that foreign nationals participating in short study abroad programs maybe able to stay in Korea for a maximum of 90 days without a visa. You may CLICK HERE for more information.


Health Insurance

HKUST students who take part in the University's exchange programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. Please CLICK HERE for details.


Accommodation

Accommodation will be provided by the host institution.
