Program Description:
Harvard-HKUST Summer International Engineering Design Experience 2020

The program is designed to provide engineering undergraduates the opportunity to conduct research project in collaboration with Harvard students, while getting a taste of cultural exposure on the Harvard University campus.

Program Period: (tentative)
*This program lasts normally for 8-9 weeks. Participants will need to be flexible with your summer schedule as an extension or reduction of 1.5 weeks may be applied.

Research Area:
Students from Harvard will team up with HKUST to work on a research topic within the area of Personal Electric Vehicles (PEVs).  With the FYP supervisor’s consent, the project work may lead to students’ Final Year Project to be undertaken in their final year.  Relevant coaching and supervision will be provided.
 
Eligibility:
  1. Students with a first major in the School of Engineering at HKUST; and
  2. In Year 2 standing or above by the end of Fall 2019-20 and will maintain active registration status^ during Summer 2019-20
Remarks
^ Students who have completed ALL degree requirements of their major program are allowed to maintain active registration status if they are still within the normative period of study and do NOT apply for graduation. Selection Criteria:
Applicants are expected to -
  1. have attained a CGA of 3.15 or above by the end of Spring 2019;
  2. demonstrate a keen interest in research; and
  3. have a good command of the English Language.  

Financial Arrangement:
  1. Round-trip economy class air-ticket between Hong Kong and Boston is provided by the School of Engineering. (Participants are required to stay with the group throughout the trips between Hong Kong and Boston.)
  2. Free housing at HKUST and Harvard is provided. (Participants are required to reside in the University student halls with the Harvard students during the program in Hong Kong.)
  3. No tuition/program fee is charged.
  4. All other costs (e.g. visa fees, meals and daily necessities) are borne by participants.
  5. Participants may also be eligible to apply for the Reaching Out Award if they have not received the Award before.  Details of the Award can be found at HKUST’s Scholarships and Financial Aid Office.
  6. Participants who require an entry visa to the USA may be required to provide proof of financial support for visa application purpose.

Selection:

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview, which is scheduled on 19 November 2019. Skype interview will be arranged for students who are currently on exchange only. Failure to show up at the scheduled interview will be treated as withdrawal. Successful applicants will be notified within December.
