About Jagiellonian University

The Jagiellonian University is the oldest higher education institution in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. It was founded on 12 May 1364 by the Polish king Casimir the Great. Jagiellonian University comprises 16 Faculties, where nearly 4 thousand academic staff conduct research and provide education to almost 40 thousand students, within the framework of more than 150 different fields of study.


About School of Polish Language and Culture Summer School

The Summer School offers summer programs for foreigners that focus on the Polish language and Polish culture. It offers Polish language courses, lectures on Polish culture, history and art, as well as on social, political and economic issues. Every year hundreds of foreigners from around the world participate in the Summer School programs to learn about both the Polish culture and language, but above all, they study another culture first hand and make new friends.

Under this sponsored program, students MUST fulfill all of the following course selection requirements:

  • Take the Polish language course for the whole study abroad duration. (For example, you should take a 3-week Polish Language course if you would like to enroll into the 3-week session A3.
  • Join all the Tourism and Cultural Program arranged for your program session
  • Take at least one of the lectures listed below (at least 2 ECTS per lecture). Lecture details can be accessed via THIS LINK. Please check the class times and select courses avoiding schedule conflicts:
    • History of Poland from the 10th to the early 20th century (ENG)
    • History of Poland in the 20th century (ENG)
    • Polish Grammar (ENG)
    • Contemporary Poland and her Society (ENG)
    • The Jews in Poland (ENG)


Program Date

There are 6 sessions lasting for 3-6 weeks. In your HKUST Summer Study Abroad application, you can choose to enroll in Session A (including A3, A4, A5, A6) or Session B (including B3, B4) according to your own schedule. You will be asked to indicate which exact session in your application to the host institution.

* Notes:

  • Host institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You should arrive on the program start date and register with the host institution. Please refer to the host institution’s acceptance package for the arrival information.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program (i.e. finishing all final examinations and/or assessments, both compulsory and optional ones).


Completion requirements

Students are required to complete the program to be awarded the credits following the requirements of the host institution. Students are also required to arrive by the program start date, and are not allowed to leave the program before the last program date or class or exam, whichever is later. Students who do not complete these requirements will not be allowed to receive any subsidies/sponsorships/scholarships issued by HKUST. In addition, since this program is sponsored by HKUST, students who do not complete these requirements are required to repay HKUST for the sponsored amount.

Students who miss more than 10% of the Polish language classes may not take the Polish language exam. A note that written language exams as well as all in-class tests are included in the total number of academic hours. It is the student’s responsibility to confirm the program completion requirements with the host institution.


Fees

This is a sponsored program and HKUST will sponsor the fee of "Full Program" which includes language class, lectures, a textbook, tourist and cultural program, a non-refundable prepayment, accommodation (shared room) and board. HKUST students will bear the costs for travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and other administrative fees.

Fee payment arrangement

  • Students will be required to pay the tuition and accommodation fees first directly to the host institution. The sponsorship amount for the tuition and accommodation fees which you have paid in foreign currency will be calculated based on an exchange rate adopted by HKUST and will be reimbursed to you (i) upon completion of the program with PASS for all the courses taken and (ii) OGL's review of your study abroad report submitted by the deadline.
  • If you withdraw from the program after acceptance or fail to fulfill the above requirements, sponsorship amount for the fees listed will not be reimbursed to you.

Health Insurance

Accommodation

HKUST students participating in this program will be accommodated in the dormitory provided by Jagiellonian University. The rooms are shared accommodation. Details can be found HERE.
