About University of Toronto

The University of Toronto was founded as King’s College in 1827 and has evolved into a large and complex institution. It now occupies three campuses: Scarborough and Erindale and the historic St. George campus. It has federated with three smaller universities which are on the St. George campus, and is affiliated with several colleges and institutes. There are ten fully affiliated teaching hospitals in metropolitan Toronto. Faculty conduct research in many places in Canada and around the world.

The University is Canada’s most important research institution and has gained an international reputation for its research. It enrols more students, employs more faculty, and offers a greater range of courses than any other Canadian university.

A liberal arts education is the heart of the undergraduate curriculum at Toronto, and the Faculty of Arts and Science has more students than any other faculty. The education of students for the professions has always been an important part of the University’s role, and the University accordingly maintains a wide range of professional faculties. The University’s insistence on the importance of research in all disciplines has made it the major centre for graduate education in Canada. In many fields it produces a majority of the nation’s doctoral candidates. The quality and range of the programs - undergraduate, graduate and professional - attract students from all parts of the province, from around the country and from abroad.

About Toronto

Toronto, the provincial capital of Ontario, Canada, is a large, ethnically diverse city sprawling along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. Academic

Majority of the courses are taught in French. Only very limited courses taught in English are offered. Click Here for a list of courses offered to exchange students.

Term date

  • Host Institutions usually organize orientation activities for exchange students, with some mandatory, which take place 1-2 weeks before the start of the term. You should refer to the acceptance package and pay attention to the expected arrival or pick-up dates specified by your host institution.
  • You should only depart after finishing all the final examinations (including resits) since host institutions will not make special arrangement for taking any examinations other than scheduled.

Eligibility (for students applying via School of Humanities and Social Science)

SHSS students are eligible to apply for the outbound exchange program by meeting ALL the requirements below.

  • Must complete at least three regular terms of study in the program prior to exchange
  • With CGA 2.7 or above by the time of applying; CGA 2.5 or above for programs in mainland China
  • A proof of English Language Proficiency (as required)
NOTE: Nomination decision rests with SHSS while final decision rests with the host university.
 

Application Process

To apply, click the "Apply Now via SHSS" button on this page. The whole application process has two steps.

Step 1: Complete HKUST application form and submit supplementary documents
 
Step 2: The Host Institution Application (TO BE COMPLETED AFTER YOU ARE NOMINATED BY YOUR SCHOOL)

If you are nominated, you will be notified to submit a formal host institution application. Your School will provide you with detailed information and application instructions in due course.
