About The London School of Economics and Political Science

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) was founded in 1895 by four Fabian Society members – Beatrice and Sidney Webb, George Bernard Shaw and Graham Wallace – following a £20,000 bequest to be used “for the betterment of society”. Today, we have 11,000 students from 160 countries on a constantly evolving campus LSE offers a unique opportunity to study the social sciences in a university institution with a worldwide academic reputation, while enjoying the cultural, social and recreational facilities of one of the world's greatest capital cities Situated in the heart of central London, the School is located in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. London is a diverse and exciting city with some of the world's best sights, attractions and activities. With so much to do, it's hard to narrow down the long list of reasons to visit.

London has the best theatre scene in the world. It attracts the best in acting talent so don't be surprised to see a few famous faces on the London stage. Take your pick from long-running musicals, classic plays, or brand new works making their West End debuts.

London attracts the biggest sporting events in the world. See a match in London or take a tour of the capital's spectacular sporting venues, from the home of the English football team Wembley Stadium, to Lord's Cricket Ground or Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum.

There are plenty of places to view the iconic skyline along the river, but make sure you take in a panoramic view of London from up high at locations such as View from The Shard or the London Eye. The Thames provides a stunning backdrop to many of the city's top tourist attractions.

You don't need to travel far to find green space in London. The capital is home to eight beautiful Royal Parks, including Hyde Park and Richmond Park. There's also Hampstead Heath, with amazing views over the city. Alternatively, visit one of London's peaceful gardens such as Kew or Chelsea Physic Garden.

Term date

• Host Institutions usually organize orientation activities for exchange students, with some mandatory, which take place 1-2 weeks before the start of the term. You should refer to the acceptance package and pay attention to the expected arrival or pick-up dates specified by your host institution.
• You should only depart after finishing all the final examinations (including resits) since host institutions will not make special arrangement for taking any examinations other than scheduled.
