Program Overview

About Shantou University

Founded in 1981, Shantou University is located in the northwestern part of Shantou, a seaside city, and covers a total area of 1.26 square kilometers. Shantou University has 8 colleges and schools, namely College of Liberal Arts, College of Sciences, College of Engineering, Medical College, Law School, Business School, Cheung Kong School of Art and Design, and Cheung Kong School of Journalism and Communication.
 

About Shantou

Shantou locates in the east of Guangdong Province and in the south of the Hanjiang River Delta. Shantou City has a total area of more than 2000 square kilometers, it has a permanent resident population of more than 5 million at the end of 2016. Shantou has well-established cultural tradition and rich cultural heritage. It had such a reputation as the "Coastal Zou Lu" (Zou Lu refers to the Kingdom of Zou and the Kingdom of Lu, the hometowns of Mencius and Confucious respectively) as early as in the Song Dynasty.

Term date

  • Host Institutions usually organize orientation activities for exchange students, with some mandatory, which take place 1-2 weeks before the start of the term. You should refer to the acceptance package and pay attention to the expected arrival or pick-up dates specified by your host institution.
  • You should only depart after finishing all the final examinations (including resits) since host institutions will not make special arrangement for taking any examinations other than scheduled.

Eligibility (for students applying via School of Humanities and Social Science)

SHSS students are eligible to apply for the outbound exchange program by meeting ALL the requirements below.

  • Must complete at least three regular terms of study in the program prior to exchange
  • With CGA 2.7 or above by the time of applying; CGA 2.5 or above for programs in mainland China
  • A proof of English Language Proficiency (as required)
NOTE: Nomination decision rests with SHSS while final decision rests with the host university.
 

Application Process

To apply, click the "Apply Now via SHSS" button on this page. The whole application process has two steps.

Step 1: Complete HKUST application form and submit supplementary documents
 
Step 2: The Host Institution Application (TO BE COMPLETED AFTER YOU ARE NOMINATED BY YOUR SCHOOL)

If you are nominated, you will be notified to submit a formal host institution application. Your School will provide you with detailed information and application instructions in due course.
