About Pohang University of Science and Technology

Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) was established in 1986 as Korea’s first research-oriented university in science and technology. It is a private university, based in Pohang, South Korea.

POSTECH’s on-campus laboratories are recognised for retaining the best research facilities in Korea. The nation’s only Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, the POSTECH Biotech Center, National Center for Nanomaterials Technology and the Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics are just a few of the state of the art facilities at POSTECH.


About POSTECH Summer Program

POSTECH Summer Program (PSP) is a great opportunity for students who seek firsthand research experience. Individual research and Korean cultural program will allow students to explore the academic field of their interest and unique Korean culture & language!

Students can choose the research topic from List of Participating Professors & Research Topics. Upon obtaining the nomination from HKUST, participants will be required to contact a POSTECH professor participating in the POSTECH Summer Program to ask admissions to the research projects and ask the supervisor to complete a Letter of Approval for submission to POSTECH. Students will need to write a research proposal prior to arrival at POSTECH, and submit it to the advising professors and lab buddies.

Four weeks from 1 - 26 July 2019

* Notes:

  • You should arrive on 28 June for student dormitory check-in. You should refer to the host institution’s acceptance package and pay attention to the arrival information.
  • You should only depart after completion of the program.


Fees

Under the student exchange agreement, tuition and application fees are waived. HKUST students will bear the program fee, costs for accommodation, meals, travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and other administrative fees. Research scholarship is also available.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for summer exchange if you:

  • wish to seek research experience;
  • will have completed Year 1 by the start of program; and
  • have a cumulative CGA of 2.0 or above (Students with CGA below 2.0 may also apply. Offers may be given with special consideration.)


Application Process

HKUST students must apply through the Office of Global Learning. Individual direct application to POSTECH will not be accepted.

To apply, click the “Apply Now” button on this page. The whole application process has two steps.

Step 1: Complete HKUST application form and submit supplementary documents (CLICK HERE for details)
 
Step 2: If you receive an offer from HKUST, you are required to contact a POSTECH professor participating in the POSTECH Summer Program to ask admissions to the research projects. List of participating professors can be found HERE. Before submitting a formal application to POSTECH, you must obtain a Letter of Approval from the POSTECH supervisor for submission to POSTECH.

Step 3: Complete the host institution application (Details will be provided in due course). Selection is on a competitive basis, and the host institution reserves the right to decline any applications.

Visa Information

All summer program participants are required to receive the short-term study visa (D-2-8) from a Korean Consulate or Embassy. Please visit the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong or the nearest embassy or consulate of the Republic of Korea in your home country for accurate information.


Health Insurance

HKUST students who take part in the University's exchange programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. To apply for an insurance certificate, please CLICK HERE.
