About Tokyo Institute of Technology
Established in 1881, Tokyo Tech is Japan's leading national university in science and technology. The Institute's three campuses in Ookayama, Suzukakedai and Tamachi are home to 1,150 faculty members and approximately 10,000 students (around 4,800 undergraduates, 5,100 postgraduates and 100 research students) in 6 Schools and 19 Departments. International students comprise nearly 13% of the student body.
About Tokyo Tech Summer Program
Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) offers a research-oriented program for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue individual research projects under Tokyo Tech faculty supervision. In addition, participants will have opportunities to learn about Japanese culture while experiencing life in one of the most exciting and technologically-advanced cities in the world.

- You should arrive on 3 June 2019 for student dormitory check-in. You should refer to the host institution’s acceptance package and pay attention to the arrival information.
- You should only depart after completion of the program.
Fees
The tuition, application and admissions fees are waived. HKUST students will bear the program fee, costs for accommodation, meals, travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and other administrative fees. Research scholarship is also available.

A limited number of qualified students will receive a JASSO or Tokyo Tech Fund scholarship. Those awarded will be informed one or two months before beginning their studies.
Eligibility
You are eligible to apply for this program if you:
- have keen interest in research;
- major in science and engineering-related fields and will have at least completed Year 2 at the time of participation*; and
- have a cumulative CGA of 3.0 or above; and
- have a good command of English.
* Note: Students who will complete ALL degree requirements of their major program in Spring 2019 are allowed to apply for the program. They must maintain active registration status and do NOT apply for graduation in Spring. For more details about application for graduation, please click here.
Application Process
HKUST students must apply through the Global Student Programs Office. Individual direct application to the program will not be accepted.

Step 2: The Host Institution Application (TO BE COMPLETED AFTER YOU ARE NOMINATED BY HKUST)
* Do not submit online application to Tokyo Tech direct. If you are nominated, you will be notified to submit a formal host institution application. Detailed information and application instructions will be provided in due course.

Visa Information
International students are required to apply for a visa for participating in the program. A Certificate of Eligibility will be issued for this purpose. Please visit the Consulate General of Japan in Hong Kong or the nearest embassy or consulate of Japan in your home country for accurate information.
Health Insurance
