About Dortmund University of Technology

Dortmund University of Technology has been researching and teaching at the global intersection between man, nature and technology since its foundation in 1968. It has developed a unique profile with a special combination of faculties in the natural sciences and engineering, the social sciences and the humanities. This structure produces new knowledge, methodologies and technical innovations. All this is achieved through a wide spectrum of innovative research and in 67 bachelor's and master's programs including a broad-based teacher training curriculum in at least 30 subjects.

About Dortmund International Summer Program

There are 3 Tracks in the program – A, B and C. HKUST engineering students can select Track A or Track C. Enrolment into a course in Track A or Track C (i.e. the Engineering Track and the Entrepreneurship Track) is subject to fulfillment of the course requirement at discretion of the Dortmund University of Technology. Requirements of each engineering course or business course are specified in the Course Catalogue of the Dortmund International Summer Program. Should any students wish to apply for a course in Track B (i.e. German and European Studies), they are required to seek instructor’s consent at the host institution.
* Important notes on the Program:

  • All Engineering Disciplines
  • At least 4 regular terms in the School of Engineering and enrolling in a major Department
  • CGA: 2.8

* Notes:

  • HKUST engineering students are required to report at the Dortmund University of Technology by 31 May 2024.
  • The date above indicates the period of mandatory activities in the programs. They do not include travel time, pre-arrival preparation, orientation, etc
  • Host institution may organize orientation activities for exchange students before the start of the program. You should refer to the acceptance package and pay attention to the expected arrival or pick-up dates specified by your host institution.
  • You should only depart after finishing all the final examinations and program requirements since host institutions will not make special arrangement for taking any examinations other than scheduled.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  1. Applicants should be in good academic standing with a CGA NOT lower than 2.150 in Fall Term 2023-24. (Students are expected to maintain good academic standing in Spring Term 2023-24.)
  2. Applicants will have completed at least 2 regular terms of study in the School of Engineering but will NOT have completed all degree requirements by the end of Spring Term 2023-24.
  3. Students in the BEng+BBA Dual Degree Program are eligible to apply.
  4. Applicants should have a good command of the English language.
  5. All applicants must attend a selection interview held by the School of Engineering in February. Absence from the interview without prior approval from the School of Engineering Exchange Office will result in automatic rejection of the application.
  6. Applicants who have been disqualified by the School of Engineering from Engineering Summer Exchange Program cannot apply.

Application Process

To apply, click the “Apply Now” button on this page. The whole application process has two steps.
Step 1: Complete HKUST application form and submit supplementary documents
Step 2: The Host Institution Application (TO BE COMPLETED AFTER YOU ARE NOMINATED BY YOUR SCHOOL)
If you are nominated, you will be notified to submit a formal host institution application. Your School will provide you with detailed information and application instructions in due course.
