About Erasmus University Rotterdam

Founded in 1913, Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is home to the first Nobel Prize winner in the Economic Sciences, Jan Tinbergen. Erasmus University Rotterdam takes its name from Desiderius Erasmus, the great classical scholar and 16th century Dutch Renaissance humanist, theologian and philosopher. One of the foremost thinkers and doers of his time and a widely-travelled scholar, he is recognised for his open-minded, sceptical and individual ideas.

EUR is an internationally oriented research university with a strong social orientation in its teaching and research and it has been in existence in its present form since 1973. EUR has seven faculties and has concentrated its education and research in four areas of expertise: Health, Wealth, Governance and Culture, in which the University enjoys international recognition.

Term date

  • Host Institutions usually organize orientation activities for exchange students, with some mandatory, which take place 1-2 weeks before the start of the term. You should refer to the acceptance package and pay attention to the expected arrival or pick-up dates specified by your host institution.
  • You should only depart after finishing all the final examinations (including resits) since host institutions will not make special arrangement for taking any examinations other than scheduled.

Eligibility (for students applying via School of Humanities and Social Science)

SHSS students are eligible to apply for the outbound exchange program by meeting ALL the requirements below.

  • Must complete at least three regular terms of study in the program prior to exchange
  • With CGA 2.7 or above by the time of applying; CGA 2.5 or above for programs in mainland China
  • A proof of English Language Proficiency (as required)
NOTE: Nomination decision rests with SHSS while final decision rests with the host university.

Application Process

To apply, click the "Apply Now via SHSS" button on this page. The whole application process has two steps.

Step 1: Complete HKUST application form and submit supplementary documents
 
Step 2: The Host Institution Application (TO BE COMPLETED AFTER YOU ARE NOMINATED BY YOUR SCHOOL)

If you are nominated, you will be notified to submit a formal host institution application. Your School will provide you with detailed information and application instructions in due course.
