About Peking University

Peking University is a comprehensive and national key university. The campus, known as "Yan Yuan"(the garden of Yan), is situated at Haidian District in the western suburb of Beijing, with a total area of 2,743,532 square metres (or 274 hectares). It stands near to the Yuanmingyuan Garden and the Summer Palace.

PKU has effectively combined research on important scientific subjects with the training of personnel with a high level of specialized knowledge and professional skill as demanded by the country's socialist modernization. It strives not only for improvements in teaching and research work, but also for the promotion of interaction and mutual promotion among various disciplines.

About Peking University Summer School

Peking University Summer School is a program offered to students from universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Participants will take classes taught in Mandarin and there are excursion trips during the weekends.


Course details

HKUST nominated students are only allowed to take courses under category B and category C. For details, please refer to: http://summer.pku.edu.cn/course.php.

Students who are nominated by HKUST must take course(s) to form a study program of at least 4 consecutive weeks' duration.

29 June - 3 August 2025

* Notes:

  • Host Institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You are required to pay attention to the host institution's arrival information and arrive in time.
    You should only depart after completion of the program (i.e. finishing all final examinations and/or assessments, both compulsory and optional ones) 


Application Deadline

24 April 2025 (Thursday) 23:59, or once the quota has been filled up.


Fees

Participants will need to bear the tuition fee, accommodation fee, travelling expenses (flight and/or train tickets for departure and return) and personal living expenses. The host institution covers the fees of local visits and activities.

Tuition fee would be charged based on the credits of the course(s) you selected. The cost per credit is CNY1,500.


Eligibility

HKUST students should apply through the Office of Global Learning. Individual direct application to the host institution will not be accepted. You are eligible to apply for the program if you fulfill the requirements listed below:

  • You are aged 18 or above; and
  • As stipulated by the host institution, priority will be given to students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan^. International students with proficiency in mandarin and written chinese as well as Mainland students may also apply and the applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

^By definition, students will be considered as a Hong Kong student and Macao student if you enter Mainland China with home return permit. Students will be considered as a student from Taiwan if you enter Mainland China with Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents.


Travel-related Information

Hong Kong and Macao students would need an appropriate travel permit to travel to Mainland China. International students are required to obtain a visa for entering Mainland China and students are responsible to take care of the visa application process.

HKUST students who take part in the University's study abroad programs will be covered by the University's Travel Insurance Plan. Please CLICK HERE for details.


Accommodation

Accommodation will be arranged by the host institution subject to availability. No separate application is required. More information will be provided by the host institution later.
