Program Description:

About University of Strathclyde

The University of Strathclyde is a Scottish public research university located in Glasgow, United Kingdom. It is Glasgow's second university by age, being founded in 1796 as the Andersonian Institute, and receiving its Royal Charter in 1964 as the UK's first technological university. It takes its name from the historic Kingdom of Strathclyde. The University of Strathclyde is Scotland's third largest university by number of students, with students and staff from over 100 countries.

About Fulbright Scotland Summer Institute

The Summer Institute: Technology, Innovation & Creativity will provide participants with a unique perspective on the cultural and political forces that have shaped modern Scotland.

The Institute will emphasise Scotland’s pioneering and current role as a technological and creative nation, reflecting the collective strengths of both the University of Strathclyde and The Glasgow School of Art. Students will benefit from the combined strengths of these two different institutions which vary in size, shape and scale but have a shared vision of the strength of collaboration between industry and academia.

The programme will examine cross-disciplinary and policy-oriented initiatives and the relationship between the technology, innovation and creativity defining a modern Scotland. Knowledge production, knowledge use in wealth creation, and governance and management of resources will also be explored. The programme will combine skills in creative thinking and cultural awareness with the knowledge of technology and innovation required by tomorrow’s leaders.

The academic component will combine practical activities that will increase the participants’ understanding of the tradition of technology, innovation and creativity in Scotland. Activities will be a combination of coursework, lectures, panel presentations, seminar discussions, debates, individual and group classroom activities and reading assignments.

The Institute will carry SCQF 20 credits (5 US credits) and this is awarded following successful completion of the presentation and journal.
